#MentorFirst Groups

Congratulations on taking the #MentorFirst pledge! Wondering what's next?  We’d love for you to create a #MentorFirst Group.

#MentorFirst groups are peer-led learning communities that offer mentors the chance to gather online or in-person and discuss practical topics around mentoring with a focus on the context of a research lab.

Visit this folder for copies of 8 discussion guides, with both facilitator and participant versions. We recommend meeting for 1 hour with a group of 3-6 people to work through each discussion guide, and you can do this at whatever pace your group prefers.

 Questions or Feedback

Whether you decide to form a #MentorFirst group with colleagues at your institution or with people you know from around the globe, we would love your feedback! Please email Professor Heemstra if you have questions about starting a #MentorFirst group or would like to share feedback on the discussion guides and group format.

I pledge to be a #MentorFirst and will demonstrate my commitment to this pledge by putting into practice each of the action items in the #MentorFirst Commitments.

I endorse the #MentorFirst pledge. I would like to see all academic research advisors take the pledge and put into practice each of the action items in the #MentorFirst Commitments.
